Walking Netball – Get moving and actually enjoy exercise!
Fun, fitness and friendship – no experience required
Welcome to Braintree Walking Netball Club. We are a club that does exactly what it says on the label – we play netball at a walking pace – no running and no jumping.
- If you thought your netball days were over – rediscover your love for the game
- If you’ve never played before – learn something new in a friendly environment

What exactly is Walking Netball?
Walking Netball is a fun, social, and low-impact version of the game many of us grew up with. No running, no jumping – just plenty of laughs, teamwork, and a great way to get moving.
Similar to regular netball it’s a team of 7 players, passing a ball down the court to score goals, but a few of the rules are adapted.
How walking netball compares to regular netball:
Regular Netball | Walking Netball |
A player can hold the ball up to 3 seconds | A player can hold the ball up to 4 seconds |
A player can jump | No jumping! |
A player can run | No running! (1 foot must always be in contact with the floor) |
A player may take 1 step when in possession of the ball | A player may take 2 steps when in possession of the ball |
All levels of fitness are welcome – play at your own pace
No previous experience required – learn as you go
Whilst the adapted rules slow the game down, you will still definitely get your heart rate pumping and improve your fitness. Take a look at us in action at a training session: see us in action.
What our members say……

“After having a hip replacement at a young age (well young for a hip replacement!), walking netball did not only get me on the road to recovery, but also hugely improved my mental wellbeing, fitness and confidence”
Nic S
“I’d always loved netball but when I started playing again in my early 40’s my knees just weren’t so keen. Walking netball was a gentler way back into the sport and as a bonus I’ve made loads of new friends”
Sarah O

“Walking netball is an exercise I look forward to every week. I’ve enjoyed brushing up my skills, playing as part of a team and having a good laugh with a lovely bunch of ladies”
